Yin and Yang

The Yin and Yang are viewed by those in the New Age Religion as the two parts of the Universal Energy Source. Life is based on the movement of energy and energy must keep moving for life to continue. Yin and yang represent the constant give and take relationship that is this movement of life.
They are two popular complements that describe how things function in relation to each other and to the universe. For instance, there is day and night, light and dark, male and female. All things are seen as part of the whole. Nothing can exist in and of itself. Everything exists in relation to everything else. Therefore, you cannot change one part of the universe without affecting the entire universe.
Yin is the female symbol associated with the qualities of darkness, negativity, passivity, the Moon. Yang is the male symbol associated with the qualities of light, positivity, agressiveness, the Sun. This 'Universal Energy Force' is thought to flow through everything, including humanity.

Homosexuality among New Agers
Homosexuality is thought to be a 'good thing' in the New Age community. Actress Shirley MacLaine has become one of the most prominent and popular spokespersons for the New Age ideology. She thinks that we are all 'God' because the Universal Life Force, or yin and yang energies flow through us all. She met trance channeler Kevin Ryerson, who convinced her that Jesus traveled to India, studied the teachings of Buddha, and became an adept yogi. Ryerson's channeled entity informed MacLaine that since all souls are androgynous (both male and female, or containing both the yin and yang qualities) that she had previously lived twice as a male and once as a female. According to the entity, Jesus had both male and femaleness within (yin and yang) that were perfectly balanced frequencies (in other words, the 'goal' of New Age Spirituality had been met in Christ).
